Computing

St Joseph’s has a computer suite which all pupils from Nursery to Year 6 have the opportunity to use each week. During this time pupils are taught the theories of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to apply this through programming and coding. To encourage children to become digitally literate, pupils are given the opportunity to create and debug programs and systems. Pupils are given the opportunity to further develop their skills through use of software programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. A wide variety of additional technology is used across the school to enhance pupils learning experiences including programmable toys, managed learning environments (Fronter), recording and camera equipment. All classes across the school have access to an interactive whiteboard as well as in our music hall and ICT suite.

During pupils’ time at St Joseph’s we feel strongly about teaching pupils to use technology safely and responsibly. All class teachers include e-safety as part of their teaching. Parents and carers are encouraged and supported in following this at home with their children.
