Programme of Study
We follow the Come and See programme from EYFS through to Year 6. The Come and See programme was developed to respond to the needs of children today in their faith journey, to enable them to grow in their religious literacy and understanding in a way that is coherent with current educational principles. It integrates the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Catholic Levels Of Attainment and the Religious Education Curriculum Directory.

At the heart of the programme is the mystery of God’s self revelation of love through Jesus Christ. Come and See gives pupils the opportunity to explore the mystery of faith through Scripture and Tradition. Throughout a child’s school journey they will each have the opportunity to explore different faiths and religions as part of this curriculum.
At St Joseph’s the assessment of RE is ongoing. We listen to how the children express themselves using examples from the Gospel, being confident in using and understanding the Bible and Scripture. We encourage children to articulate their thoughts, feelings, ideas, knowledge and understanding using key religious vocabulary and ‘driver’ words whilst making links with the Gospel and discussing how they would live their lives following Jesus’ example.
At the end of each topic, children write an extended piece of writing in their RE books. Tasks are based on activities within areas of the Come and See programme. These meet the Catholic Levels of Attainment in Religious Education; AT 1 Learning About Religion and AT 2 Learning From Religion.
At the end of each term, teachers complete their RE Assessment Tracking Grid which shows attainment and progression for each child across the year.
